ELECTRICITY at the South Road Properties (SRP) will be sold for as low as P1.50 per kilowatt hour, making it an ideal and attractive site for investors, particularly the call center operators, the mayor said.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña announced yesterday that the National Power Corp. (NPC) has agreed to allow the SRP to adopt a scheme where electricity rates will vary, depending on the time it is used.
Electricity will be most expensive from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., which will cost the user P5.80 per kilowatt hour. From 9 p.m. To 12 midnight, users will pay P2.30 per kilowatt hour and P1.50 per kilowatt hour from midnight to 5 a.m.
“This is a strong selling point for the SRP, especially with the call centers because electricity is cheapest during the hours when they operate... This is a very, very strong point where the SRP will be competitive,” Osmeña told reporters yesterday.
The amount set by the NPC, however, may still change since the power supply will have be distributed by a utility company like the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco), which will add on distribution charges and other fees.
Since the SRP has been granted a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) status, the City Government can either set up its own utilities distribution system or award it to other private firms through appropriate bidding procedures, without the need for a congressional franchise. (LCR)
